User Interface Design / Graphic Design Contract (Eugene, Oregon)

Contract Description

The University of Oregon Center on Teaching and Learning (CTL) is seeking to engage in a contract with a User Interface Designer / Graphic Designer to assist in the development of a website for the presentation of professional development materials for the Oregon Literacy Framework. The Designer will interact in person with CTL staff and other contractors to design a look and feel for the materials on the website and in interactive presentations and to implement that look and feel in the form of mockups and templates rendered in HTML/CSS and Flash.

Desired skills and experience

  • Designing user interfaces for interactive websites
  • Building mockups and prototypes for websites and applications
  • Developing accessible, standards compliant, cross-platform templates using HTML and CSS
  • Developing templates for content management systems such as Drupal
  • Developing graphics for documents and publications
  • Developing charts, diagrams, and other technical illustrations
  • Working with a team of technical and content-area experts

Scope of work

This contract will result in work on an hourly basis, at a negotiated rate, as requested by CTL staff. It is estimated that 20-80 hours of work in total will be completed under the contract.

Specific Tasks

  1. Collaborate in person with CTL staff to create mockups of user interface elements for a dynamically generated website, in compliance with the designated website requirements of the University of Oregon and State of Oregon Department of Education
  2. Collaborate in person with CTL staff to develop look and feel and templates for text documents
  3. Collaborate in person with CTL staff to develop look and feel for presentations to be hosted on website
  4. Develop HTML/CSS templates based on the mockups from task 1 in collaboration with the Drupal content management system developer
  5. Assist team members with various design tasks associated with graphic design for presentations, exercises, and documents

Contract Term

The contract will begin as early as June 11th, 2010 and end no later than September 30th, 2010.

Candidate Location

Candidates must be an individual or team in the area or region of Eugene, Oregon, able to meet in person several times over the course of the contract period, but the contractor will be responsible for maintaining a suitable working environment off-site. Reimbursement for travel expenses is not available.
